GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the generaldirection of the Director, assumes primary responsibility for project functionsassociated with the design and construction of new facilities/additions andmajor renovations for. Plans, directs and oversees all activitiesfor assigned projects from program development, design, conformance with designspecifications, budget guidelines and compliance with all applicable buildingcodes and regulations; directs consultant architects, engineers, contractorsand subcontractors involved with assigned project(s).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages all activitiesthroughout the feasibility, program development, design, engineering and constructionprocess to ensure the timely and successful completion of assignedproject(s). This includes selection of architects, contractors,direction of architects, construction contract negotiations, but is not limitedto: monitoring construction schedule and notifying all partiesinvolved of any deviations from the original schedule; coordinating activitiesof and serving as liaison between all field representatives of consultantarchitects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors and insurance underwriters;will ensure these individuals perform necessary construction tests such asmedical gases, HVAC, plumbing, sprinkler, etc.; utility shutdowns; preparationand monitoring of punch lists; coordinator and follow-up of all othertechnical/administrative duties necessary for occupancy (installation ofhardware and keyings, telephones, etc.); May direct other staff asneeded to perform these activities.
  • Typically responsiblefor the development of the project budget and schedule. Monitorsproject expenses and ensures that all costs are in conformance with theproject budget. Anticipates potential cost overruns and discussesjustification and supporting documentation with superior. Devisesalternative construction/design solutions to cost containment issues forapproval as appropriate.
  • Manages thepre-construction planning process by involving necessary administration in thedevelopment of program requirements. Responsibilities includeevaluation of proposed sites, survey of existing mechanical systems,establishing scope of work, formulating work plans, developing cost estimatesand project schedules, and keeping other administrative services Hospitalorganizations up-to-date throughout the project.
  • Uses professionalexpertise to provide technical support to administration and consultantarchitects/engineers during design and construction phase ofprojects. Formulates alternative design solutions for engineeringissues/problems, as necessary.
  • Works with departmentsand other tenants to ensure that construction/renovation projects areprogrammed to correspond with the needs of users.
  • Ensures completion ofall post-construction requirements for occupancy, including any necessarycertificates, inspections and insurance confirmation.
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of six years of progressively more responsible experience in project management, planning, project engineering and/ or facilities engineering.
