The position provides medical oversight for the Maine Urgent Care Enterprise. Assures the adequacy and appropriateness of direct and indirect medical care provided to patients. Evaluates patients referred by clinicians outside their scope of service, provides supervision of treatment plans and oversees pharmaceutical/diagnostic needs of patients. The Medical Director collaborates with team to develop policies and procedures to improve the clinical outcomes and operations while maintaining regulatory compliance. The Medical Director supports the organization's vision of uncompromising pursuit of excellence in healthcare in a safe and trustful environment. The medical director provides system leadership and will work collaboratively with other system leaders to inspire a shared vision and arrive at consensus to support strategic initiatives of CMH.

Essential Duties:

  • Serve as the champion of the patient experiences
  • Engages patients utilizing exceptional customer service practices in alignment with the
  • Participates in administrative decision- making, establishes policies, procedures and guidelines designed to ensure clinical best practice
  • Communicates with the medical staff regarding policies, standards, and specific work related medical problems
  • Serves as a member of the medical staff, attends medical staff meetings, and ensures adherence to the medical staff bylaws and rules and regulations
  • Provides medical supervision for APS providing treatment within the Maine Urgent Care enterprise
  • Provides coding audit and advisement to APS team members utilizing industry standard benchmarks
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies
  • Knowledge of current state, federal, and local laws and regulations governing urgent care and occupational medicine
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
  • Serves as a member in the Maine Urgent Care Steering team and, in collaboration with the Chief Physician Executive, ensures that the steering team agenda contributes to and implements the strategic direction of Central Maine Healthcare
  • Attends at least one urgent care center provider meeting per month
  • Facilitates the appointment of APS provider leaders as needed
  • Provides leadership and conflict resolution to strengthen provider relations within CMH and expand the outreach efforts to providers unaffiliated with CMH
  • Ensures that customer service standards are upheld and reviews patient complaints and provides feedback and advisement in conjunction with the Clinical Risk Manager
  • Review and participation in performance improvement plans and provider corrective action if needed
  • Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives that support regulatory and accreditation compliance
  • Actively participates in risk management initiatives through collaboration with CMH risk management
  • Performs annual reviews of all providers within the Maine Urgent Care enterprise.
  • Participates in annual review of Maine Urgent Care administrative team members
  • Participates in the interviewing, onboarding, and training of new team members for Maine Urgent Care
  • Oversees with collaboration from the clinical informatics team the use of EMR systems
  • Collaborates with administration, vendors, and consultants to review and advise on operations in existing and new models of care
  • Provide clinical oversight of ancillary services including but not limited to lab, radiology, and therapy
  • Acts as UCA medical director for Maine Urgent Care
  • Acts as CLIA lab director for Maine Urgent Care

Education and experience:

  • Currently licensed to practice medicine in the State of Maine
  • Current Board Certification in family medicine, emergency medicine, or designated specialty
  • Current Urgent Care Association Accreditation membership
  • Administrative experience in a health care delivery system preferred
  • Clinical leadership experience preferred
  • Excellence in patient experience preferred
