Working closely with the International Director of Restitution, the Business Director will:. Proactively lead and deliver change in due diligence process and culture globally to shift initial competence work to the art departments.. Ensure alignment and integration with other systems advances i.e. Canvas, looking for opportunities for development and implementing projects to maximize Restitution's time.. Oversee budget and report on budget, operational and HR issues, ensuring the smooth-running of the team and its needs.. Support business getting and client relationships via prompt estimates and payments.. Support due diligence, training and business reporting initiatives.. Provide strong partnership with Christie's departments as an internal ambassador for Restitution.. Located in New York, this full-time role will also work closely with key senior management, both in Restitution and art departments such as Impressionist & Modern and Old Master Paintings based in New York, also enhancing Restitution's visibility with Christie's in this region and the world.. Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to. Proactively lead, manage and deliver significant culture and process change around the due diligence process, with key responsibility for implementing required changes and innovating the workflow between Restitution and specialist departments. Also, responsible for ensuring compliance and critical control measures are in place with oversight of this area along with identifying and implementing opportunities and improvements.. Regularly update International Director of Restitution on project status and escalate issues and opportunities from due diligence on a regular basis.. Manage impact of changes to Christie's systems, specifically Canvas, on Restitution and proactively seek ways to have these systems streamline Restitution's work and increase efficiency.. Ensure successful completion of the current Restitution database project and manage resources for the development of in-house databases.. Sale Support. Ensure effective processes and relationships with the art departments so that Restitution is informed of catalogue deadlines, marketing, planned tours and exhibitions in good time.. Support the International Director of Restitution in finalizing/completing consignment and settlement agreements and sales arrangements for restituted/settled works.. Manage correct consignment and payment process for restitution business.. Communications & Reporting. Meet regularly with International Director of Restitution to understand, agree, and implement strategy and support her in reporting to senior management.. Working with the International Director of Restitution, organize events to promote Christie's restitution work i.e. lectures, panel discussions, and conferences.. Prepare monthly reports and updates as requested, and act as committee secretary for internal forums.. Working with the International Director of Restitution and Deputy Director, develop ways of ensuring that the Restitution department members are engaged with the departments and two-way interaction is regular and informative.. Ensure successful redevelopment of the Restitution internet page and development of Restitution intranet site.. Team Management & Leadership. Partner with the International Director of Restitution, ensuring that team objectives are decided in line with overall corporate goals and adopted by the team.. Ensure performance management process is delivered in a timely and effective manner.. Ensure that the appropriate career development for the team is being applied i.e. training, mentorship.. Manage HR operational/administration i.e. onboarding, expenses, vacations requests, Health & Safety, equipment, arranging team calls.. Actively support and drive Company changes and initiatives (i.e. the Culture Survey) and act as an agent of change.. Set and track the Restitution budget.. The Candidate. Experienced in culture or process change with demonstrable project management experience and ability to deliver.. Good knowledge of Christie's systems and auction process.. Resilient and focused, calm under pressure.. Proactive and confident organisation with good attention to detail and ability to multi-task.. Strong interpersonal skills and Ability to influence at all levels and internationally. Effective communicator, both verbal and written, with good presentation skills.. A team player, showing diplomacy and sensitivity, supporting colleagues; global team experience desirable.. Good budgetary, reporting and spreadsheet skills.. Sensitivity towards restitution issues and good historical knowledge of the period.. A European language desirable.. Knowledge of Holocaust Restitution issues.. The Benefits.
