Assists the Director and AVP in managing the Plant Operations Department of the hospital, office buildings and off-site clinics. Assists the Director and AVP in planning, directing and managing the department and staff to assure quality service on a 24-hour basis. Promotes teamwork with all stakeholders to maintain internal and external customer satisfaction, and appropriate resource management. Assumes the role of Director in their absence.


Provides direction and supports the Plant Operations staff, Central Plant, and the overall building systems and equipment. Develops and maintains a preventive maintenance program for all equipment, buildings, Central Plant, building and building systems. Oversees the operation of all Life Support systems related to patient safety and Operations. Oversees, administers, and modifies programs to maintain the physical plant, and equipment through effective utilization of personnel and materials in accordance with local, state and federal codes, and hospital policies / procedures. Assist Director and AVP with operating and capital budgets. Develops and maintains staff training requirements as required, and as needs change. Maintains preventive maintenance program to keep the plant and equipment functioning in a safe and efficient manner. Considerable knowledge of building code requirements, electrical codes, fire codes, and regulatory compliance requirements for The Joint Commission, CMS, DOH and other agencies. Skill in data analysis, organization, and presentation. Computer skills including spreadsheet and word processing applications. Ability to work effectively with all stakeholders including but not limited to physicians, administration, departmental directors and managers, nursing, and outside agencies. Strong leadership skills and work ethic. Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks, and to develop a self- directed work team.


Education Required: Associates degree in facilities related field.

Trade school education and additional five years trade experience may be considered in place of formal college degree.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Facility Management or a related field.Healthcare industry experience

Seven years of progressively more responsible experience, with five years at a managerial level, in an acute care medical center required.

Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment. Ability to be a Business Partner.

Knowledge of NFPA 101 codes.

Candidates must have adequate knowledge of AutoCad, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

Experience Required:

Five years hospital experience with at least three years progressive management experience.


Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) preferred. New hire can be given the opportunity to acquire certification within one year of employment if other qualifications are met.
