Under the general direction of the Director, assumes primary responsibility for project functions associated with the design and construction of new facilities/additions and major renovations for. Plans, directs and oversees all activities for assigned projects from program development, design, conformance with design specifications, budget guidelines and compliance with all applicable building codes and regulations; directs consultant architects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors involved with assigned project(s).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages all activities throughout the feasibility, program development, design, engineering and construction process to ensure the timely and successful completion of assigned project(s). This includes selection of architects, contractors, direction of architects, construction contract negotiations, but is not limited to: monitoring construction schedule and notifying all parties involved of any deviations from the original schedule; coordinating activities of and serving as liaison between all field representatives of consultant architects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors and insurance underwriters; will ensure these individuals perform necessary construction tests such as medical gases, HVAC, plumbing, sprinkler, etc.; utility shutdowns; preparation and monitoring of punch lists; coordinator and follow-up of all other technical/administrative duties necessary for occupancy (installation of hardware and keyings, telephones, etc.); May direct other staff as needed to perform these activities.
Typically responsible for the development of the project budget and schedule. Monitors project expenses and ensures that all costs are in conformance with the project budget. Anticipates potential cost overruns and discusses justification and supporting documentation with superior. Devises alternative construction/design solutions to cost containment issues for approval as appropriate.
Manages the pre-construction planning process by involving necessary administration in the development of program requirements. Responsibilities include evaluation of proposed sites, survey of existing mechanical systems, establishing scope of work, formulating work plans, developing cost estimates and project schedules, and keeping other administrative services Hospital organizations up-to-date throughout the project.
Uses professional expertise to provide technical support to administration and consultant architects/engineers during design and construction phase of projects. Formulates alternative design solutions for engineering issues/problems, as necessary.
Works with departments and other tenants to ensure that construction/renovation projects are programmed to correspond with the needs of users.
Ensures completion of all post-construction requirements for occupancy, including any necessary certificates, inspections and insurance confirmation.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of six years of progressively more responsible experience in project management, planning, project engineering and/ or facilities engineering.
