DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS)provides engineering and manufacturing services for Naval and commercial machinery systems. This includes the design and fabrication of advanced electric machinery including high performance torque/power dense permanent magnet motors, generators and associated power electronics, large rotating machinery, industrial turbine technology, packaged power and propulsion systems, mechanical equipment modeling and naval machinery inspection.

Fitchburg Massachusetts is a community of ~41,000 people is located 10 miles from New Hampshire and 50 miles from Boston. Despite being one of the largest cities in the county, Fitchburg retains its small town flavor. Fitchburg boasts excellent access via highway or MBTA commuter train to all points. One can choose to live in any type of area; be it urban, suburban, or rural; all within a short commute to Fitchburg.


Position Summary
DRS NPS has an immediate need for a Quality Manager responsible for developing and maintaining a DRS Fitchburg ISO compliant program, to assure that all products manufactured meet customer and company specifications and achieve superior quality and reliability levels. Business systems will mirror and comply with the Corporation's objectives, external regulations and guidelines as well as customer contracts, specifications and general quality requirements. This position is charged with ensuring all the Quality Assurance Systems are fully implemented and monitored and the Quality Control Procedure and Practice are standardized and followed. This role is responsible for the ongoing analytical assessment of all materials and certification of their performance to customers. The Quality Systems covers the Product lifecycle through Design, Supply, Manufacture and Customer Application


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide quality leadership to direct reports peers and superiors in support of the DRS Quality mission
  • Staff, train, equip, and direct the activities of quality assurance personnel including quality engineers, inspectors, and auditors
  • Identify and justify capital equipment and/or technology improvements
  • Maintain, execute, and improve the Quality Assurance and Supplier Quality elements of the quality management system using departmental and company resources
  • Manage all ERP/Quality System related quality modules. Use data to drive improvement through disciplined metrics management and team projects
  • Perform direct coordination with customer and suppliers during early planning phases of development and production programs
  • Manage direct and indirect budgets and department expenses
  • Develop and review quality assurance cost estimates in support of proposal efforts
  • May specialize in distinct Quality functions such as Product Quality & Supplier Quality, but ideally will prove competency in all Quality functions
  • Assist in the development and approval of the Standard Operating procedures (SOP)
  • Support, communicate, and reinforce the mission values and culture of the organization

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in engineering or equivalent experience in a related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of quality related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills
  • Ability to lead effective corrective action using disciplined problem solving methods and statistical analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of AS9100 Rev D and ISO 9001-2015 Standards
  • ISO Lead Auditor experience desired; certification preferred
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification desired
  • ASQ certification desired
  • Demonstrated Continuous Improvement expertise
  • US citizen required

    Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance required
  • DoD experience preferred

    Must be able to perform the following activities: walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, etc.
