Summary:

Provides support related to the Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital Pathology faculty professional practice activities reporting to the Chief

of Pathology with a dotted line reporting relationship to other Hospital management. In conjunction

with and on behalf of the Chief works with the departments M.D.s and PhD.s to enhance

their quality of services productivity revenue generation and efficiency. Conducts

faculty-related financial and operational analyses and gathers financial and

qualitative data to prepare the faculty-related component of business plans for

new or expanded programs and services in the department. Works collaboratively with the Director of

Pathology Administration (operations) to ensure alignment of efforts.

Responsibilities:

In order to improve faculty-related productivity and service

quality and ensure optimal use of faculty resources under the direction of

the Chief and working with the Director of Pathology Administration reviews

information about the performance of existing department-wide systems and

operations. Reviews faculty-related financial operational human and

technology resources. Develops and prepares

routine faculty-related reports with financial metrics as requested by the

Chief or Hospital management such as monthly statistics related to faculty

performance.

Works with the Chief and assists division/section chiefs to

establish faculty-related productivity goals for clinical research and

academic activities revenue operational and service quality efforts; supports

the development and implementation of action steps to achieve faculty-related goals.

Recognizes and develops opportunities for new faculty

business for departmental divisions and programs; analyzes faculty-related

projected costs financing and reimbursement.

Seeks input and assists in the implementation of improvement initiatives

for existing faculty business activities.

Formulates recommendations for changes as appropriate. Prepares written reports/presentations of

analyses and proposals presents information to Chief department leadership

Hospital management and other pertinent parties.

Ensures that all professional billing opportunities are

being identified and maximized. Ensures

the effectiveness and accuracy of the professional fee-related billing

processes (including consult billing).

In conjunction with the Chief develops implements and

monitors the departments faculty-related annual operational and capital budgets. Oversees professional allowance monies and

special/restricted funds used for faculty-related expenditures.

Develops and maintains effective relationships between the Department

faculty and other Lifespan affiliate departments and customers. Develops and maintains relationships with

external customers and clients who conduct business with the Department.

Troubleshoots existing and/or potential issues in department

faculty-related business procedures ensures faculty compliance with applicable

internal and external regulatory requirements; recommends and monitors related changes

as appropriate.

As appropriate participates with other members of the

Departments leadership team in department-wide strategic planning quality

improvement patient safety and other routine or ad hoc management efforts.

Works with Lifespan Contracting the Chief and the Director

of Pathology Administration to develop faculty-related data for new contracts

for services; manages faculty-related components of contracted relationships.

Working with the Chief and the departments Administrative

Coordinator ensures that the faculty is knowledgeable and informed about applicable

policies and procedures and that all pertinent information is disseminated to the

faculty through staff meetings in-service education and other means that keep faculty

informed/competent.

Working with the Chief supports efforts for recruitment and

retention of faculty including business plans for new programs and positions and

drafting offer letters. Handles LIAMS

and Lifeworks access requests/process for faculty.

Ensures that on-going training licensure and accreditation requirements

are completed in a timely manner by all faculty. In preparation for review by the Chief oversees

the Medicare time reporting process for the faculty to ensure accurate and

timely completion. As determined by the

Chief is involved in the faculty OPPE and FPPE processes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE

Bachelors degree in finance accounting healthcare

administration or related field.

Masters degree in related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of three (3)

years experience n healthcare finance management business administration or

related field.

High level analytical

quantitative financial management and problem-solving skills

Proficiency in Microsoft

Excel required

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Experience within a large complex organization and

progressive management experience preferred.

Experience working in an

academic pathology department strongly preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in typical office setting requiring

extended periods of sitting.
