Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Manager Server Engineering responsible for the engineering and management of all electronic messaging-related and cloud collaboration services within Lifespan. This position also provides support for all Lifespan Services projects to assure a high value widely accessible comprehensive integrated information environment which meets customer needs. The position requires team participation in the development of all Lifespan messaging Microsoft cloud collaboration solutions and policy standards. Required to serve on-call on a rotating schedule as needed by the Department.

Responsibilities:

Design and implement high availability and high volume email/calendar/message and Microsoft cloud related systems for use throughout the Lifespan enterprise systems.

Participate in engineering and design of new messaging strategies including extension of messaging to new devices using new transport media such as wireless messaging to PDA devices.

Evaluate install test and maintain enterprise-wide Messaging hardware software and systems including performance monitoring and optimization. This includes cloud based messaging systems and their related components.

Provide and archive all appropriate configuration data for enterprise-wide messaging systems. Coordinate Manage and Supervise email policies directories and information store integrity. Maintain accurate electronic and hardcopy documentation of the enterprise-wide messaging infrastructure.

Perform message system monitoring and capacity planning including implementation of new/upgraded messaging software. Research and recommend new network messaging technologies and upgrades to existing technologies and participate in development of rollout strategies.

Act as a resource for Client engineering Server Engineering Desktop support Helpdesk and other personnel with problem identification and resolution for all enterprise-wide messaging technologies.

Assist in determining the needs structure staffing and systems required to deliver world class messaging and collaboration capabilities to all Lifespan affiliates.

Provide day-to-day user and system support hardware/software installation and changes system troubleshooting and analysis security updates user training and maintenance of all messaging and collaboration systems.

Provide support for all Lifespan user directory infrastructure.

Participate in engineering and design of new messaging strategies including extension of messaging to new devices using new transport media such as wireless messaging to PDA devices or other more current technology as it becomes adopted at Lifespan.

Recommend develop and implement policies and procedures and act as liaison with other departments and outside agencies with regard to the operation of all messaging and collaboration systems including external gateways web-based gateways and integration of messaging exchange needs with business partners. Work with all customers to analyze needs consider alternatives and develop cost effective solutions.

Help develop and provide support for appropriate security measures to protect Lifespan messaging systems.

Establish benchmark criteria and report on day-to-day monitoring and utilization of all enterprise-wide email and calendar systems. Recommend and implement actions necessary to meet the service level requirements of the organization.

Develop and deploy preventative maintenance schedules disaster recovery techniques including and knowledge documentation on technologies as they apply to messaging infrastructure.

Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge by attending seminars vendor presentations and reading professional literature. Participate in councils quality improvement teams and other such committees as required.

Maintain quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital and departmental polices procedures and objectives.

Responsible for providing upper management with the following as required: new technology demonstrations and education; feasibility studies; affiliate needs and requirements; project plans; implementation strategies; budgetary and cost analysis; task preparedness; progress reports; documented customer feedback; and quarterly review.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

* Maintain and monitor monthly control logs and systems on categories of usage and productivity.

* Implement cloud technology redundancy for messaging system reliability

* Ability to provide remote analysis and support of email access for Microsoft tools and collaboration systems at all Lifespan affiliates.

* Participate in all departmental goal and strategy development.

* Participate in data recovery strategies specifically tailored to email systems.

* Involvement in Demonstrations/Presentations and Benchmarks.

* Perform other related duties as required.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Equivalent to Bachelors degree in Computer Science Electrical Engineering IS or related field preferred. A combination of technical training and a minimum of five years email/messaging systems analysis/design may substitute for a degree. Must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft server technology Microsoft email software Microsoft cloud collaboration systems and possess excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently and to communicate with all levels of customers and management.

EXPERIENCE:

Five years increasingly responsible related work experience in messaging systems analysis/design and support including at least two years of related network messaging engineer experience in a similar environment. Experience with multiple OS client support. Experience with messaging system connectors integration Internet messaging concepts. Messaging architecture and design experience required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in a typical office environment requiring extended periods of sitting walking and/or standing.
